For a long time I've been a great advocate for high street lingerie... think of me as the Gok Wan of the lingerie blog world (but really I'd rather you didn't). It's reasonably priced, okay quality for what you are paying for and also very fashionable. But what happens when the high street brands begin to "take inspiration" from our favourite lingerie brands, who put so much time into designing a garment?
What is the point of lingerie? Is it functional, is it for covering up your boobs and bum, for support? Or is lingerie simply there for the point of being alluring, beautiful, and making you feel like a goddess? I'd like to think it was the latter but I suppose that when lingerie was first created they weren't as forward-thinking. It wasn't until the nineteenth century was lingerie was created as a visually appealing garment. So why do we have lingerie that purposefully doesn't cover nipples and genitals?! Well, here at Toots & Booty I'm all for the idea of being naked whilst also getting to wear the cutest and most beautiful lingerie pieces!
So if you haven't heard of the new 'mummy porn' sensation Fifty Shades of Grey then you've probably been living under a rock or even better chained up to a bedpost for weeks. It's said that because of the "novel" (and I use that word lightly) there's most likely going to be a rise of interest in lingerie - sexy lingerie at that. While I can't get into the Twilight-based fanfic myself I can surely get into lingerie. If it isn't already obvious to you, I'm not a fan - but if you want to get your hair pulled and butt spanked then I may be able to suggest some lingerie pieces for that! (Let's just ignore the fact that Christian Grey is, in his own words "Fifty Shades of Fucked Up" and passive aggressive with obviously many underlying issues, and pretend it is a great portrayal of BDSM lifestyle okay? Cool.)
The sales have started and there's so so many lovely things that you can get at the moment for teeny tiny prices! So not to worry if you're strapped for cash and need a lingerie fix to get you through the working week because there's even designer styles down to prices as little as £10! So here's my top picks for this seasons sales!
Latex in fashion terms is generally something that most would relate to fetish wear. It is a material that connotes at mystery, the exotic, the erotic and especially, the expensive. While we do see a vastly growing number of latex based retailers nowadays, it is rarely everyday wear - not something the average person just has floating about in their wardrobe.
Now thanks to an exciting new collaboration featuring London-based lingerie brand, Playful Promises and latex designer, Kaori Matsubara, latex has been given a brand new affordability and attainablity.
I'm all about Playful Promises today as they've been delighting Facebook followers with fabulous sneak previews of upcoming lingerie the passed couple of days. For example, I'm very intrigued by this teaser from the upcoming collaboration with Kaori's Latex Dreams and can't wait until more is revealed.
Today I've spent hours doing 5 illustrations of just a small portion of our favourite brands! I enjoy fashion illustration so this was really fun for me and I hope you like them (and I also hope the brands don't mind that I turned their models into my illustrations!). I've been a bit rusty lately trying to get back in to drawing after a couple of weeks of taking a break, but I'm pretty pleased with the outcomes! I've tried to represent the brands through materials and drawing style, although still hopefully staying true to my own (weird) illustrations! My brain is frazzled so sorry for the lack of actual comprehensive writing! So I present to you:
Playful Promises, Bordelle, Lascivious, Kiss Me Deadly, Damaris
It's my (Booty's) Birthday today so I thought I'd rub it in all your faces and demand gifts! Mwaha! Really though, this gives me the perfect opportunity to share some lingerie I've been seriously lusting over lately, my top pick of the past couple of blogging weeks so to speak. Maybe I'll treat myself to one of these bad boys...
With grey skies and dreary mornings we all need to inject a little fluorescence into our lives this month! This seasons neon beauties will be everywhere including your lingerie drawer. Neon colours are surprisingly easy to wear and when you have a peek of a neon-pink strap poking out of your boob tube then don't put on a boring strapless bra! Embrace your fluorescent undergarments with these fabulous finds.
Good afternoon lovelies! It's great to be back after a frightful couple of weeks of university assignments and general essay hell! We hope you haven't missed us too much ;)
The lingerie world is as fast-paced as any sector of fashion and we've missed a lot. So here's a little recap of what has caught my eye during sneaky lingerie-based procrastination sessions.
I'm loving the popularity of triangle bras at the moment. As opposed to some other soft-cup bras, they're really flattering on the bust and tie in perfectly with the 'underwear as outerwear' trend (a lot of these bras would look great under a sheer blouse). One of the best places to go for triangle bras is Damaris/Mimi Holliday. They have a great selection in fab colours like the lemon drop bra pictured above right. I also love the scarlet Calvin Klein (top left) with its applique detailing on the cups and the gorgeous lace Intimissimi bra (centre) with pink floral accents.
Here are some more of my favourites:
Calling all the romantics, dreamers, readers of Keats and Shelley and lovers of pink! This is my comprehensive list of lingerie that will make your heart flutter. I adore boudoir lingerie and its fanciful femininity. I love the silks and the lace, the beautiful colours and the extravagant trims like bows and satin ties. I think to key to any lover's lingerie is that it is not only pleasing to the eye but wonderful to touch so the fabrics are really important. I really enjoy layering up my underwear and making a separate outfit of it but once you have the bare basics, what can you add to set off your Aphrodite look?
At two different budgets, here is my anatomy of romantic lingerie.
Whip-crackers and paddle-wielders alike, This week I'm looking for the absolute must-haves for any self-respecting fetish queen - or "Mistress". Please be aware that I'm referring to fetish in more fashion-related, standard kink terms and therefore this list will not cater to the more specifics of the wide world of fetishes (i.e. my underbust corsets, although gorgeous, probably won't impress a foot fetishist all that much). So if you pledge allegiance to Bettie Page and love nothing more than the smell of leather, this list is for you. Again I've compiled a list with two examples of each: one at a budget and one if money were no issue.
For all the aspiring retro Pin-Ups out there, I'm going to share what I consider to be the knicker draw essentials to achieve that Elvgren lingerie look. I've also picked a few examples of these Pin Up must-haves to suit a range of budgets. Whether your wallet (or purse) is looking skinny or you're more fortunate with your finances, I hope you find the retro goodies for you.
Last week, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to
attend the Independent Lingerie brand event at Cirque Du Soir. The event was a
celebration of the month of love and fashion with an exclusive catwalk show
featuring lingerie and swimwear fromPlayful Promises,Kiss me Deadly, Paolitaand Lucile.
